MEDAL FOR EXCELLENCE

WAR 600-8-22, para. 3-9.

  1. Description.

(1)   Medal.  A bronze medal cross overlaid with a square placard.  Centered within the placard is a buffalo in the center of a seal.

(2) Ribbon.  The ribbon is 1/38 inches wide and consists of the following vertical stripes:  7/16 inch Blue; 1/4 inch White; 1/4 inch Red 1/4 inch White and 7/16 inch Blue.

  1. Eligibility/Criteria.  Awarded to:

(1)   Any person, as a member of the Wyoming National Guard, who distinguishes himself/herself by courageous conduct at the risk of his/her life, above, and beyond the call of duty.

(2) Any National Guard member, other military service member or civilian, who distinguishes himself/herself by exceptionally meritorious service to the State of Wyoming or United States in a duty of great responsibility.

(3) Any Person who by selfless and untiring activities in connection with the Wyoming National Guard has rendered a distinct service in furthering the interests of and promoting the security and welfare of the state.

(4) Any individual who, by unselfish and untiring activities in connection with the Wyoming National Guard, has rendered a distinct service in furthering the interests of and in promoting the Wyoming national Guard.

  1. Procedure.  Each higher headquarters unit has a Wyoming National Guard Association representative assigned.  This assignment should be posted on the bulletin board of the higher headquarters and on each subordinate unit’s bulletin board.  These appointed representatives can instruct personnel in the proper procedure to follow.  Contact the State Awards Officer/NCO for information on who to contact at the Wyoming National Guard Association for assistance in recommending this award.  (Send requests for award of the Medal for Excellence through the WY NGA Awards Chairperson listed above.)
  2. Subsequent Awards.  There is no recent history of a subsequent award ever being awarded.  For acts of valor or heroism, a bronze “V” will be awarded.
  3. Approval Authority.  The approval authority for this award is the Adjutant General
  4. Presentation.  The Governor, Adjutant General or the President of the Wyoming National Guard Association will present the Medal for Excellence at an appropriate ceremony.

 

NOTE:  FOR THOSE PREVIOUSLY AWARDED THE MEDAL FOR EXCELLENCE, ADDITIONAL MEDAL SETS (INCLUDES LARGE MEDAL, MINI MEDAL, AND RIBBON) ARE AVAILABLE FOR $30.  EXTRA RIBBONS ARE AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST.  MINI MEDALS FOR THE MESS DRESS ARE AVAILABLE FOR $8.00.
